How It Began

Hurricanes

This interest dates back to 2017 when the hurricanes Harvey & Irma hit parts of the United States. I became minorly interested in the events of that hurricane season but I still didn't know much about them yet. I still played a few hurricane-related games but the first time I would properly "track" a hurricane was in 2020 when Hurricane Laura hit Louisiana. Things really kicked off on Apr 30 2021 when I started fully tracking cyclones and hurricanes like Seroja (2021) and Typhoon Surigae (2021). Later that year I also tracked Hurricane Ida, which I remember vividly. Since then, I've been following tropical happenings in the Northern Indian Ocean, Eastern Pacific and Northern Atlantic every season.

Severe Weather

By July 2021, I began playing on a modded Minecraft server with a weather mod that added tornadoes and hurricanes, so we can confirm that my interest in severe weather had started by then. The first real severe weather event that I experienced was on July 28th 2021 when I was put in a Moderate risk for severe weather by the SPC. Although that event ended up not verifying, late that night while I was playing Minecraft on the previously mentioned Minecraft server I glanced over at the radar and noticed I was in a tornado warning. I stopped playing Minecraft immediately and sheltered downstairs, waking up everyone else in the house at the same time. That tornado didn't hit us thankfully, though it was quite scary and cemented my interest in severe weather as well.

"What is your favorite weather event that you've seen so far?"

Either Hurricane Ida or Hurricane Otis. Ida due to it's memorability as mentioned in the How It Began:Hurricanes passage and Otis because it came out of nowhere. For those unaware, Otis was an unorganized tropical storm for the beginning of it's life before explosively(?) intensifying into a Category 5 hurricane and hitting the major Mexican city of Acapulco. As for severe weather, none so far has been particularly major but I guess the tornado mentioned in the How It Began:Severe Weather passage is pretty notable.

Misc.

I've created my own "hurricane season animations", though they're all hypothetical and take place in Yutska's world. I like making hypothetical hurricane and severe weather scenarios a lot, as well as games where those are simulated.
