How It Began

Pre-Mar 27 2025

Unlike previous rhythm games like Just Shapes & Beats and Vib-Ribbon, I had prior knowledge of the game before I got interested in it. The most likely year I first found out it existed is in 2023, though I knew almost nothing about the game other than that it was on the PlayStation so I couldn't play it and that the characters were eyeballs. I didn't even know that it was a rhythm game.

During & after the final Nintendo Switch (1) direct

On March 27th, 2025, only a week before the Nintendo Switch 2 direct I had been waiting months for, a surprise Nintendo Switch 1 direct was scheduled and I expected absolutely nothing of interest from the direct. Of course, we all know how that went. A sequel to my favorite video game (Tomodachi Life) was announced, as well as Patapon 1+2 Replay. I immediately recognized the eyeball character when it popped up and after that direct I was mainly focused on the sequel to Tomodachi Life, but after that I suddenly became quite interested in the Patapon series as a whole, and that's how it started.

"Why do you like this game?"

Even though I'm not particularly good at rhythm games, it's one of my favorite video game genres. And, of course, the characters are really cute and of course I like those. It's just really well designed.

"What's your favorite game in the series?"

I like Patapon 1 for the story and Patapon 2 for literally everything else. I haven't gotten to play Patapon 3 much.

"What's your favorite tribe?"

I like the Patapons the most but the Zigotons are also very cool. Don't care much for the other ones though. Hero is my favorite Patapon and Gong is my favorite Zigoton.
